Hi, I'm Christina and I'm the founder of SWIMSAFE, we're a small business based in Essex in the UK.

I'd always seen lots of information online about the colours that are best for children to wear in the water so you can easily see them. Bright block colours was the general gist. The problem I found however was finding these colours - especially as a block colour - just didn't exist. I started to think someone should really make these!

My son had been a water baby since we started swimming lessons when he was just 12 weeks old. I firmly believe that swimming is a really important life (and safety) skill that everyone should have, and gaining that water confidence as well as some early water safety skills are where that starts.

When I couldn't find any of the one-piece swimsuits in suitable bright colours I thought 'well at least at the moment he's never without one of us supporting him' (he was not quite 2 at this point). Then one day at our weekly swim lesson the children practiced their usual jumping into the water to the adult with them. It was waist deep water and he was wearing a light blue swimsuit my mother-in-law had bought him, and with me stood in front of him he jumped in and disappeared. Right in front of me. I reached down and as usual guided him back to the surface.

But that moment scared the life out of me.

Knowing he was less than two feet away from me yet invisible to the eye as soon as he jumped in, my mind instantly went to all the 'what if's'.

That was it and SWIMSAFE was born!
